How red light & infrared work
A plain-language map of the spectrum you’ll see on product pages — without promising clinical outcomes.
The useful bands (approximate)

Ranges are educational approximations. Always read the manufacturer’s stated wavelengths.
Heat vs light
- Sauna heat: Raises comfort temperature and encourages sweating — relaxation and recovery routines many people use after training or on rest days.
- Red / NIR light devices: Marketed around cellular energy and skin appearance; dosing depends on irradiance and time. We won’t invent clinical protocols here.
- Combo products: Some cabins add LED red panels; SaunaSpace-style systems use broadband incandescent output that includes red + IR.
What “full spectrum” usually means
In sauna marketing, “full spectrum” often means the unit includes near, mid, and far emitters. It does not automatically mean the same thing as a researched LED panel dose. Ask which hardware produces which band.
Safety posture
- Follow eye-safety guidance for bright LEDs and hot bulbs
- Hydrate for heat sessions; ease in if you’re new
- Pregnant people and anyone with heat or light contraindications should ask a clinician first
